War and Victory are never the End in Itself

Humanity continually faces a real threat of war. The means of warfare increasingly improve and with that the social effects become destructive and widespread. Also, traditional types of warfare change to new qualitative ones. Modern society cannot avoid the danger of war and the presence of mass destruction creates a universal threat. According to various estimates, more than 15 thousand wars have taken place during the history of mankind, with 4 bil. people dead.

Calculations made during wars should always include all the threat layers and should also display caution and will. However, war has objectives, it is the continuation of political expansion, as it emerges in a particular political situation and becomes a result of political motives. In addition, war and victory are never the end in itself.

From this point of view war is perceived as a socially accepted (sanctioned) means for political, economic, ideological, national, territorial, religious, civilized and other conflicts of interest between states, nations, ethnic and social groups and classes. The implementation of which is military conflict.

Other means of conflict applied in the 21st century are when one of the parties gets a significant advantage: for instance, it is very common to carry out an information war in line with military operations through psychological means of influence. This is aimed at the deterioration of opponent’s psychological stability, change of value orientations, as well as the disintegration of national consciousness. The basic forms of informational-psychological struggle are the propaganda carried out in various ways, information fraud and misinformation.

Recently the diplomatic wars have also become widespread, when diplomatic pressures are applied over one country by other countries, organized by a state. An example is the diplomatic tension between Great Britain and the West and Russia over the “Scripts Case”.

A side having an advanced economic and energy infrastructure is more vulnerable during military actions, as it can become targets and become a cause for great destruction. Therefore, conflicting sides should refrain from military actions giving advantage to the negotiation processes. Without armed action and by the economic blockade of the opponent it is possible to have a priority over the latter. An example of this is the US policy over Iran. Another example is the US commitment to the “North Stream-2” project, which was manifested by the EU resolution, urging to abandon the “North Stream-2” pipeline, as it is a threat to “European energy security and US interests”.

The so-called hybrid war has also become modern, which is applied by not only guns and tanks, but also by propaganda, misinformation, terrorism and economic pressures. Hybrid war also implies subversive acts of special services on the enemy’s territory. In this context, the so-called “hybrid” means that a few tools will be simultaneously used in the fight against the enemy, which has an important role.
